Ignacio has been a long-time ranching community within the Southern Ute Reservation, a tribe descendant of two of the seven original Ute tribes that inhabited Colorado. With several places to eat, shop, and even a large casino to play and stay at, it attracts people from all over. It is located less than 30 minutes southeast of Durango toward the New Mexico border.

Ignacio, Colorado, is the home to the headquarters of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation. There are multiple ranches in farmland scattered throughout the region with parks, cultural museums, and the modern Sky Ute Casino Resort, one of the Ute Tribes' economic mainstays. There are a few casual restaurants downtown, and one of the more popular spots is the Navajo State Park, offering a variety of activities such as watersports, jet skiing, fishing, and the reservation's top trout fishing hole, Lake Capote.
Things to Do in Ignacio, Colorado
While there may not be a lot of things to do directly in town, spread out across the community are activities, events, recreational options and fun things to see and do such as the Aztec Ruins National Monument, the Canyon of the Ancients, Durango Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park, the Navajo State Park, Sky Ute Fairgrounds, the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum, and more.
Ignacio also has several little cafés and places to eat such as the Rose Café, Seven Rivers Steaks, Seafood and Spirits, and the Rise & Shine Coffee and Burritos. All definitely hit the spot for different reasons.

Ignacio has its own Ignacio School District No. 11 Jt. The district has an early learning program, elementary, middle, and high school.

"I grew up in and around Ignacio. It's always felt like home. It's grown so much since I was young (we have five traffic lights now!) and I look forward to seeing how our community will continue to grow. We have a beautiful library, a well-stocked grocery store (I can even find gluten-free and vegan options), several restaurants, and more niche or boutique stores all the time. We also have a grand casino/hotel that doubles as an entertainment venue. Some of the best concerts I've ever been to were hosted by the Sky Ute Casino. I'm grateful to have lived the vast majority of my life in a place with a great deal of diversity, and a strong sense of community."
