Fairlight Whritner was born and raised on the east coast near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up on a farm with many animals and siblings. As a twenty something she moved to the city of Philadelphia and got her first restaurant job; culinary arts have been a dominant passion of hers since a young age. She decided to pursue the culinary arts and received a degree from the Culinary Institute of America in 2004. Her culinary journey has spanned from catering and chocolatier work in the Hudson Valley of New York, to Fine Dining Pastry Chef and food truck owner in Colorado. For the last 5 years Fairlight has been the owner and pastry chef for her own shop, Deco Dessert, in Mancos, CO. Deco specializes in wedding and celebration cakes, handmade ice cream, chocolates and French macarons. Fairlight’s family has lived in the Mancos Valley for 12 years now. Her two teenage sons attend Mancos schools and her husband Ed Whritner is a well known community member. Ed was the former Secondary Principal and employee for the Mancos schools and is now High Desert DEVO’s Executive Director for youth cycling. Fairlight and Ed fell in love with Southwest Colorado 20 years ago after setting out on a journey to find a new home after getting married in 2006. They thought it would be a temporary move but here they are! Fairlight’s father was an architect and had a passion for historical buildings, photography and land. Fairlight was brought up surrounded by a beautiful farm, always with never ending building projects. A lifetime interest in real estate has led Fairlight to officially get into the business.
